After a lot of reading and deliberating, our submission review process is over. Over the next few days, I will be emailing out more information to those who have submitted fiction, poetry, and art to our inaugural issue. Overall, we had a good batch of submissions and it proved difficult to narrow them down.

As of tomorrow, at the stroke of midnight (Central Time), Asphalt Sky's submissions will be closed. We've had a great response so far, but there's always room for more. If you want to submit before the end of 2007, you only have 28 hours left!

Submissions have been open for a month and so far, we've had a great response. We have a little over a month to go and we need your work.

We are especially in need of artwork and fiction, but all submissions are welcome. To submit, please review our guidelines for fiction, poetry, and artwork. Then, submit your work to asphaltsky at gmail dot com.

New Editorial Board Editor -- Round 2

I am so thrilled to introduce our second editorial board member, Kate Sloan Fiffer.

Kate Sloan Fiffer is a writer and performer living in Boulder, Colorado. She holds an MFA in Writing and Poetics with a concentration in Translation from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University, where she served as Managing Editor and Translation Editor for Bombay Gin Literary Journal. She is a member of Lamp Mask and Puppet Theater, and is a co-founder of Wednesday Machine Arts Collective. Her reading interests are ever-changing, but currently include experimental fiction and contemporary Italian poetry.

Please welcome our first editorial board member, Jo Hemmant. You can view Jo's work here, as well.

Jo Hemmant has a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature and a Masters in Women Studies (with a thesis on flight and fancy in the novels of Toni Morrison). She worked for many years as a journalist, editor and in publishing management before leaving to start a family. Her literary interests span women’s writing, the contemporary novel, early 20th century writers, literary criticism and poetry. She is currently involved with various writing projects.

I'm very excited to have Jo on our board and I expect that I will be making another editorial board announcement soon.

Editorial Board Wanted!

I am looking for a couple of volunteers who would like to assist with the submissions for Asphalt Sky. It would be a volunteer position, no pay but lots of glory.

I will be leaving submissions untouched until the close of the submission period, December 31. At that point, I'll distribute submissions evenly to the board and we can start determining selections. The work will be done via email, so geography is not an issue.

If you are interested, please email asphaltsky at gmail dot com and indicate if you would like to review poetry, art, prose or all three.

Asphalt Sky is calling all poets to submit their best work. How do you know it's your best? Does it make your toes tingle, your heart race, and your teeth rattle? Send it in immediately.

Asphalt Sky only wants poetry that is concrete, literate, and thoughtful. Formal or free verse are both welcome, as long as the language sings.

* Please submit between 3-5 poems in the body of the email. No attachments will be opened, for fear of evil email viruses.

* Simultaneous submissions are happily accepted. If you strike publication gold, please email to notify.

Asphalt Sky is looking for stories rooted in a sense of place, plot, and personality.

Asphalt Sky needs the images that haunt your dreams, the ones inscribed on the back of your eyelids, the pictures you had to create to get them out of your head.

Asphalt Sky will take photography, painting, drawing -- anything that can be posted on the internet. Legally and ethically.

* Submissions are only accepted via email at asphaltsky at gmail dot com.

* Please submit between 2-4 images, posted in the body of the email. Attachments will not be opened, for fear of evil email viruses. Once images are accepted for publication, you will need a high quality jpeg file to send.
